In orthopedic and sports medicine care, Bone Marrow Aspirate Concentrate (BMAC) is used in select cases to augment healing of bone, cartilage, tendon, and ligament injuries—including certain focal cartilage defects, partial tendon tears, and non-healing bone injuries. It may also be considered as a biologic adjunct in early degenerative joint conditions when appropriate.
According to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the use of BMAC remains an emerging biologic option with ongoing research to better define its role and effectiveness. Treatment decisions should be individualized and made in consultation with a qualified orthopedic specialist.
