Dr. Daniel S. Sutton, MD, MScBoard-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon | Fellowship-Trained Sports Medicine Specialist

Dr. Daniel S. Sutton is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist with advanced expertise in knee and shoulder reconstruction, cartilage preservation, and minimally invasive joint restoration. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Howard University Hospital and a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.

A proud graduate of Meharry Medical College, Dr. Sutton was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society and received numerous awards for academic excellence, leadership, and research innovation. Before his surgical training, he earned a Master of Science in Epidemiology from Queen’s University (Canada) and worked with Cancer Care Ontario, where he conducted research on cancer outcomes, access to care, and health disparities. This foundation in population-based research informs his ongoing commitment to evidence-based practice and outcomes-driven orthopedic care.

Dr. Sutton has authored and co-authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and has presented his research at national and international meetings, including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the National Medical Association (NMA). He serves as a peer reviewer for the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS) and remains actively engaged in clinical research, mentorship, and resident education.

His commitment to global surgical education has led him to collaborate with international orthopedic organizations, including work in Tanzania, where he helped establish the region’s first orthopedic surgery training program—an initiative aimed at strengthening local capacity and advancing musculoskeletal care across East Africa.

He has served as a team physician for athletes at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels, including the Houston Sabercats Rugby, Texas A&M Football, and Major League Soccer (MLS). His patient-centered philosophy emphasizes injury prevention, performance readiness, and individualized rehabilitation, integrating surgical precision with long-term functional outcomes.

Dr. Sutton is an active member of the AAOS, AOSSM, AMA, NMA, and the Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, and also contributes as a medical-legal consultant and mentor, helping guide the next generation of orthopedic surgeons.

Beyond medicine, Dr. Sutton is a proud husband and father, devoted to his wife, daughter, and their three dogs. His life reflects a deep commitment to faith, family, mentorship, and excellence—principles that define both his personal and professional journey.
